چکیده

Introduction: In the context of diffusion in tissues, one can think of the two broad classes of restrictions to molecular motion: (i) surface restrictions (membranes), and (ii) diffusivity heterogeneity in the bulk of the tissue. The latter class encompasses variation of diffusion properties on a finite length scale, such as diffusivity contrast between cells, or between the intraand extracellular space, or between clusters of cells of different types within a voxel. Any tissue generally possesses both classes of restrictions. To assess their relative contributions and importance, it is useful to understand them separately. The case (i) of membrane restrictions has been recently considered [1]. The present work deals with the effect (ii) of the heterogeneous diffusivity using the effective-medium framework [2,3].

Comparison between MRS and DWI in MRI of breast cancer

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer) in people throughout the world. Today, MRI is being used because of the limitations of x-ray mammography to detect breast cancer. Non-contrast sequences were associated to CE sequences in a breast MRI protocol for the sake of appraising morphologic ...

Longitudinal changes in diffusivity after long-term storage of postmortem tissue

Introduction Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) obtained postmortem is potentially superior to in vivo DWI. It resembles in vivo neuroanatomy and benefit from improved signal-to-noise ration (SNR) and spatial resolution through use of high-field MR scanners and longer scanning times. Moreover, degrading effects on DWI observed in vivo such as physiological noise are absent. The potential benefits...

Evaluation the FLAIR Sensitivity and DWI Post-inject in Comparison with Delayed Enhancement T1w for Better Detection of Active MS Lesions

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, typically progressive and most common autoimmune disease which damaged the central nervous system. According to the reports in 2008, this disorder has affected 2 and 2.5 million people globally. While the reason is not clear, proposed causes for this include immunologic, environmental, infectious and genetic factors, and sexuality. MS can cause ...

The effect of susceptibility of gadolinium contrast media on diffusion-weighted imaging and the apparent diffusion coefficient.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES The development of parallel magnetic resonance imaging has resulted in the frequent use of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in clinical medicine, which usually involves the use of contrast medium. However, gadolinium (Gd) contrast medium may have some effect on DWI and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). The present study was performed to determine whether the mag...

Anisotropic Anomalous Filter as a Tool for Decreasing Patient Exam Time in Diffusion Weighted Mri Protocols

Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) are noisy submodalities images in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and usually have long acquisition time due to repetitions needed to improve the signal noise ratio (SNR). Here we propose and evaluate anisotropic anomalous diffusion (AAD) filter on DTI and DWI to enhance SNR and reduce the need for repetitions. Anisotropic ano...
